Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue class of compounds. Researchers at a pharmaceutical company first described it in the 1990s while screening small peptides for growth hormone releasing activity. Its chain contains five amino acid residues, two of which are non-natural building blocks, including 2-aminoisobutyric acid and a naphthylalanine derivative. The molecule was designed to act at the ghrelin receptor while avoiding several effects observed with earlier secretagogues.
At the cellular level, ipamorelin binds the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also called the ghrelin receptor. Activation of this receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells triggers a signaling cascade that leads to release of growth hormone into circulation. Because release follows a pulsatile pattern, studies often report peak concentration and total area under the curve rather than a single time point. Selectivity for this receptor is the property most frequently discussed in comparative work.
Compared with older secretagogues such as hexarelin or GHRP-6, ipamorelin shows weaker stimulation of cortisol, prolactin, and appetite in the animal models used for early characterization. Whether that selectivity is preserved across longer human exposures remains an open question, because published clinical data are limited in size and duration. Reported effects on food intake are generally described as modest. The compound is therefore treated in the literature as a relatively selective research tool rather than a fully characterized therapeutic agent.
Storage recommendations for the dry solid center on low temperature and low moisture, most often -20 °C in a sealed, desiccated container protected from light. Solutions are less stable than the powder and are usually kept cold and used within a short window. Freeze-thaw cycling is a recognized source of loss, and aliquoting before freezing is a standard precaution. These practices derive from general peptide handling principles rather than from a single published stability trial, so exact shelf lives should be treated as approximate.
Analytical confirmation relies on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, often coupled to mass spectrometry for identity and purity assessment. Mass spectrometry distinguishes the intact molecule from truncation products and from oxidation or deamidation variants that share similar chromatographic retention. Immunoassays appear in some biological studies but can cross-react with related peptides, so they are weaker tools for identity work. Reported purity figures depend heavily on the gradient, detector, and integration method used, which complicates direct comparison between laboratories.

Compared with other secretagogues such as GHRP-2, GHRP-6, and hexarelin, ipamorelin is described as more selective. Published animal work reports little or no increase in adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, or prolactin at doses that release growth hormone. This selectivity is the property most often cited in the research literature. Whether the same profile holds across species and dosing schedules remains an open question, since human data are limited and come largely from small studies.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue family. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, and its molecular mass is approximately 711.9 daltons. The compound was described in the late 1990s by researchers seeking molecules that release growth hormone with fewer side effects than earlier secretagogues. It is a laboratory and research compound, not an approved medicine in most jurisdictions.
At the molecular level, ipamorelin acts as an agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also called the ghrelin receptor or GHS-R1a. Binding to this receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells triggers a signaling cascade that leads to growth hormone release. The effect is mediated through phospholipase C and calcium mobilization rather than through the cyclic AMP pathway used by growth hormone releasing hormone. The two pathways are complementary, and combined stimulation produces a larger response than either alone.
Lyophilized material is generally held at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower, protected from moisture and light. Repeated excursions to room temperature cause condensation inside the vial and gradual moisture uptake, both of which shorten shelf life. Containers should be allowed to equilibrate before opening so that water does not condense on the solid. Dividing a batch into single-use aliquots reduces freeze-thaw cycling. Solid peptide handled this way is usually considered stable for months to years, while the same material in solution degrades on a much shorter timescale.
Common solvents for laboratory work include water, buffered saline, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Once dissolved, the peptide is exposed to hydrolysis and oxidation, and alkaline conditions accelerate breakdown. Low-binding plasticware and the addition of a carrier protein reduce losses to container surfaces, which can otherwise be substantial at low concentrations. Solutions are typically kept cold and used within days. Investigators working with the compound generally prepare fresh working dilutions rather than storing dilute stocks, and they avoid repeated warming of the same vial.
On 20 January, the Brazilian Ministry of Health declared a national emergency following reports of deaths among Yamomami children due to malnutrition and easily curable diseases. The president of the FUNAI also led the creation of a task force to deal with the humanitarian crisis. Between 2019 and 2023, at least of 570 Yanomami children died from malnutrition, hunger and mercury contamination. Lula accused Jair Bolsonaro's government of having committed genocide against the Yanomami, several researchers blamed the entry of illegal miners into protected native lands for the high amount of deaths between the local indigenous peoples, as well as alleged connivance and omission of the federal and local/state administrations during the previous government. Due to the high number of deaths since 2023, reports on the situation decreased, until they stopped being published at the beginning of 2024, when there was a further increase in deaths due to violence.

== Symmetry == During the 19th century crystallography was progressively transformed into an empirical and mathematical science by the adoption of symmetry concepts. In 1832 Franz Ernst Neumann used symmetry considerations when studying double refraction in crystals. Woldemar Voigt, who was a student of Neumann, in 1885 formalized Neumann's principle as "if a crystal is invariant with respect to certain symmetry operations, any of its physical properties must also be invariant with respect to the same symmetry operations". Neumann's principle is sometimes referred to as the Neumann–Minnigerode–Curie principle based on later work by Bernhard Minnigerode (another student of Neumann) and Pierre Curie. Curie's principle "the symmetries of the causes are to be found in the effects" is a generalization of Neumann's principle. The relations between symmetry and physical and chemical properties were established throughout the 19th century: the notion of hemihedry (Weiss, 1819; Delafosse, 1840), the 7 crystal systems (Mohs, 1822), the notion of point lattice (Seeber, 1824), the 32 crystal classes (Frankenheim, 1826; Hessel, 1830; Gadolin, 1869), molecular chirality (Pasteur, 1848), the 14 Bravais lattices (Bravais, 1850), the 65 chiral groups that contain only proper symmetry operations – rotations, translations and roto-translations (Sohncke 1879), and, finally, the 230 space groups (Fedorov, 1891; Schoenflies, 1891; Barlow, 1894).

The chemical formulas of organic esters formed from carboxylic acids and alcohols usually take the form RCO2R' or RCOOR', where R and R' are the organyl parts of the carboxylic acid and the alcohol, respectively, and R can be a hydrogen in the case of esters of formic acid. For example, butyl acetate (systematically butyl ethanoate), derived from butanol and acetic acid (systematically ethanoic acid) would be written CH3CO2(CH2)3CH3. Alternative presentations are common including BuOAc and CH3COO(CH2)3CH3. Cyclic esters are called lactones, regardless of whether they are derived from an organic or inorganic acid. One example of an organic lactone is γ-valerolactone.
=== Impact of pregnancy === During pregnancy, the ovaries and the placenta produce estrogen and progesterone. These hormones stimulate the 15 to 20 lobes of the milk-secreting glands in the breasts to develop. Women who experience multiple pregnancies repeatedly stretch the skin envelope during engorgement while lactating. As a woman's breasts change in size during repeated pregnancies, the size of her breasts change as her mammary glands are engorged with milk and as she gains and loses weight with each pregnancy. In addition, when milk production stops (usually as a child is weaned), the voluminous mammary glands diminish in volume, but they still add bulk and firmness to the breast. A 2010 review found that weight gain during pregnancy and breastfeeding were not significant risk factors for ptosis.
=== Collagen-like characteristics === Spongin and collagen exhibit comparable filament structure, both displaying a hierarchical organization of nanofibrils, microfibrils, and fibers, as well as a triple-helical based structure. Spongin microfibrilis measure approximately 10 nm in diameter and exhibit a periodic banding pattern every 60 nm, comparing to collagen's 67 nm periodicity. Despite the structural similarities, amino acid analysis reveals that spongin contains significantly higher levels of tyrosine residues, approximately 90% of which are mono- or di-brominated derivatives. This abundance of tyrosine is related to the oxidation of phenylalanine residues, which are prevalent in collagen but nearly absent in spongin. The brominated tyrosine derivatives are hypothesized to play a crucial role in stabilizing spongin's triple-helical structure through cross-linking.
== Safety == Due to its radioactivity, curium and its compounds must be handled in appropriate labs under special arrangements. While curium itself mostly emits α-particles which are absorbed by thin layers of common materials, some of its decay products emit significant fractions of beta and gamma rays, which require a more elaborate protection. If consumed, curium is excreted within a few days and only 0.05% is absorbed in the blood. From there, ~45% goes to the liver, 45% to the bones, and the remaining 10% is excreted. In bone, curium accumulates on the inside of the interfaces to the bone marrow and does not significantly redistribute with time; its radiation destroys bone marrow and thus stops red blood cell creation. The biological half-life of curium is about 20 years in the liver and 50 years in the bones. Curium is absorbed in the body much more strongly via inhalation, and the allowed total dose of 244Cm in soluble form is 0.3 μCi. Intravenous injection of 242Cm- and 244Cm-containing solutions to rats increased the incidence of bone tumor, and inhalation promoted lung and liver cancer. Curium isotopes are inevitably present in spent nuclear fuel (about 20 g/tonne). The isotopes 245Cm–248Cm have decay times of thousands of years and must be removed to neutralize the fuel for disposal. Such a procedure involves several steps, where curium is first separated and then converted by neutron bombardment in special reactors to short-lived nuclides. This procedure, nuclear transmutation, while well documented for other elements, is still being developed for curium.
Computationalism is the position in the philosophy of mind that the human mind is an information processing system and that thinking is a form of computing. Computationalism argues that the relationship between mind and body is similar or identical to the relationship between software and hardware and thus may be a solution to the mind–body problem. This philosophical position was inspired by the work of AI researchers and cognitive scientists in the 1960s and was originally proposed by philosophers Jerry Fodor and Hilary Putnam. Philosopher John Searle characterised this position as "strong AI": "The appropriately programmed computer with the right inputs and outputs would thereby have a mind in exactly the same sense human beings have minds." Searle challenges this claim with his Chinese room argument, which attempts to show that even a computer capable of perfectly simulating human behaviour would not have a mind.

It is a synthetic pentapeptide in the growth hormone secretagogue family. The chain contains five residues, two of which are non-natural amino acids.
It acts as an agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also known as the ghrelin receptor. Binding at pituitary somatotroph cells promotes growth hormone release.
Early studies report weaker effects on cortisol, prolactin, and appetite than compounds such as GHRP-6. The size of that difference in humans is not firmly established.
Typical guidance is -20 °C in a sealed container with desiccant and protection from light. The powder tolerates handling better than a solution, but repeated warming and cooling is still avoided.
